The Paprika chile pepper is a large, cone-shaped pepper, typically dried and ground to make the more familiar powdered spice. The true paprika spice should use only ground Paprika peppers, but depending on where you get your paprika spice, it may be made from ground bell pepper or miscellaneous chili pepper varieties or a mixture of both.
CULINARY USE: Ground Paprika is popular in rich, complex Hungarian goulash and traditional chile recipes.
Although paprika is often associated with Hungarian cuisine, the peppers from which it is made are native to the New World and were later introduced to the Old World. Originating in central Mexico, paprika was brought to Spain in the 16th century. The seasoning is also used to add color to many types of dishes.
